Hi,

MOL (Mac on Linux) is really great! I got it running on a B&W G3 with
CS 1.0 + (most errata included) and kernel 2.2.12 from the ydl ftp
site.

It is especially nice that you can start it from the console, and it
starts up in full screen mode. If anyone is interested: for b&w G3s
and the 2.2.12 kernel you must set 'mouse-protocol' to 'PS2' in
/etc/molrc for this, otherwise MacOS is of no big use...

Moreover, freshly installed it starts with all disk volumes locked,
to prevent itself from trashing them. But to do useful work, at least
the startup volume you want to use should be r/w (preferably not your
usual system volume...). That volume must not be mounted already in
Linux, otherwise it is forced to r/o. Fortunately this doesn't seem
to be the case with the CD-ROM drive.

It is really amazing, I can even surf on the internet (using a
different IP than Linux), or access Appletalk file servers. That's
what I need, switch between Linux and MacOS w/o rebooting, or having
a UNIX-Like environment (with mysql, php, hhtpd and all those
goodies) available while working in MacOS.

One thing puzzles me though. I have a 15 GB Harddisk in the Zip disk
bay of my G3. It works like a charm in MacOS, (although I can't boot
MacOS or Darvin from it) but MOL doesn't seem to see it. The error
message says: '/dev/hdb: Device not configured'. What does that mean
exactly?

Cheers
