This binary is designed for LinuxPPC R4 which uses an glibc
1.99-snapshot that is totally incompatible with any newer PowerPC Linux
distro (post-Feb 1999) that uses glibc 2.1. These to different glibc's
are totally incompatible with each other (because glibc 1.99 was an hell
of a big unstable hack to put it lightly :).

At any rate, you can attempt to patch an old glibc 1.99 binary using a
tool called fix961212 (nice ring :).It will produce unstable programs,
but some programs will at least work somewhat. It's part of the
bincompat RPM, you can get from the same place as you got Yellow Dog
Linux (you CD or FTP site).

Once bincompat is installed, open up a terminal, become root, and type
(assuming your in the same directory as ghx):

fix961212 ghx3

This should print lots of messages out about patching this software. Now
you should be able to start ghx3.

If it still fails, make sure it is a proper PowerPC Linux binary and not
something else. You can do this using the file program.

file ghx3

should print something like (ELF 32-bit MSB executable, PowerPC is the
important part):

/usr/bin/ghx3: ELF 32-bit MSB executable, PowerPC or cisco 4500, version
1, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped

One more thing... if you get errors about not finding gtk+-1.0.x, then
install the gtk+-10 package.

Have fun. Just remember, don't expect ghx3 to be at all stable --
fix961212 doesn't produce stable programs. You may also consider Tube
(see freshmeat) a Java 1.2 based Hotline Client. This client is free,
and does much more then ghx3 ever did.
