Subject: Shutting down interface eth0

when I shutdown my machine, about %80 of the time, now, it never gets past
"shutting down interface eth0".
It sits there for hours or days, if I let it.
I think it has something to do with a failure to close the localhost
interface.
Is there someone out there who knows a little bit more about the rc.d
scripts? I think I need to comment something out, but I don't know the
first thing about shell scripts.
