OK,

Xawtv is just a client program. You need kernel level support for the
hardware before xawtv can work. I tried the video4linux stuff in the
kernel for my iProRaidTV, and it identified the chip, but it didn't work.
Instead I compiled the bttv modules and load them during boot. The xawtv
web page has links to both:

You'll need to find out if either one of these support your specific
hardware.
