Hehe, you can try. Results may vary. I once tried to install Red Hat 6.1
over a Red Hat 6.0 installation on a PC. Disaster waiting to happen...
The best thing would be to have all of your work, etc. on a /home
partition and just reinstall/reformat /, /usr, etc.
