French keyboard on BW G3?

Hi!

I got the YDL working in my G3, but using it annoys, as I originally have
a French keyboard. Has anybody successfully changed the keyboard settings
in a BW G3 or in an iMac?
I tried the method described for MkLinux, but it didn't work - rather it
spoilled everything. Thanks in advance!
