I don't have strace on this system. I did a "find / -name strace"

Nada ;)

Maybe I should try the statically linked one. As much as I love shared
libraries (note heavy sarcasm in voice).

This doesn't seem like a library problem.

At anyrate, what would you suggest now, kind sir?
