I have 8.6 on my b&w g3 and it works just fine. I use BootX 1.0.2, latest
stable release AFAIK. Do you boot into Linux from MacOS or after restart?
As it seems, weird things can happen in the former case when you have the
'wrong' extensions enabled. Sound doesn't work on my machine in this case.
Anyway you need the right Linux kernel residing in the MacOS System Folder.
