Hi all,

My name is Bill and I'm a Linux installation/administration
Newbie. This is the Linux 12-step program, isn't it? ;-)

I've been programming and using various flavors of UNIX for
some 15+ years. So, I was foolish enough to think I knew enough
to order Yellow Dog for my G3 without buying support. :-( What is
it that the kids say now days? ... My Bad!

        I've been a Mac user since 1985. I bought a blue and white G3
last Spring: 300MHz, 256MB, 6GB, DVD, Zip, SCSI. On previous ma-
chines, I had successfully installed and ran Tenon Intersystem's
MachTen. So, when I heard about Yellow Dog, I thought I'd give
     it a shot.

I printed the installation instructions off of the YD CD and
followed the directions. After installing the initial software
files (it's been a few weeks -- bootp?), I rebooted the G3 to
start the full, regular installation. Everything looked like it
was going okay: the OS selection dialog appeared, I selected Lin-
ux, the screen switched to character mode, and stuff started
scrolling by. But then it stopped and the last lines on the
screen said something to the effect of "stack overflow" and "in
     swapper process."

BTW, I was going to try to install YD on an old APS external
     (and noisy) 1GB SCSI drive.

I'm not at home right now, I'm out doing three weeks of train-
ing for my company. I really can't try suggestions until after I
get back home. But, I thought I'd pop in and ask: "Does this
ring a bell with anybody? Has anybody seen anything similar?"

(I'd also like to apologize for the length of this post for a
simple question. Unfortunately, my e-mail style usually ends up
book-length. Maybe I should quit being an instructor and stop
     writing course materials. :-) )

If you're still reading this thing, any suggestions would be
appreciated. And, I'll try to follow the suggestions I receive
when I get back home. Thanks in advance and, as we say in Grand
Funk land, keep Shinin' On ...

Bill--
...who heard EMACS is a nice operating system, but UNIX has a better editor.
