Subject: FBIOPUTCMAP failed (X crashes)

On my PowerBook G3 (Lombard), whenever I leave the machine idle
for a while, the X server crashes with:
> Fatal server error
> fbdevUpdateColormap: FBIOPUTCMAP failed (function not implemented)
I read the message at:
http://lists.yellowdoglinux.com/yellowdog-general/june99/0349.html
but I'm not using libPropList at all (I don't think -- it's not
in the RPM database).
My guess is that the underlying Energy Star hardware to turn the
display off set by the Mac Energy Saver Control panel is turning
off the display without the X server knowing what's going on.
How can I fix it so that the settings when used as a Mac do not
interfere when used as a Linux box? Will using xset dpms help?
What should the command be if so?
