OK, it does. However, the screen never goes off no matter how
long it's idle -- something I want to happen with a PowerBook
running on battery.
I RTFM for xset and it's not clear how "xset s" commands
interact with "xset dpms" commands. The manual page also
doesn't say what the difference between "standby," "suspend"
and "off" are (though, if I had to guess, "standby" = blank,
"off" = off, but I can't guess what "suspend" would be).
I tried doing an "xset dpms force standby" and I get a
"BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)" error.
Has anybody got his PowerBook to shut the display off in, say,
3 minutes? If so, what's the right xset incantation (taking
into consideration Dan's answer so that the X server won't
crash)?
