vmode args?

Hey Y'all.

I've been using my beige G3's onboard video, but I just got an ATI Rage Orion
16 card.

I'd like to use both, but it's not important. How does dual monitor setup
work? I really don't know where to start.

It works fine if I use my settings (ie check "no video driver" in BootX) from
the monitors control panel, but it seems kinda slow. That might just be
because I'm using a higher resolution now, but it seems *really* slow. Also,
my onboard video doesn't get used by linux. It just keeps my macos background
texture until I shutdown.

I'm using Xpmac rev 9, btw.

I tried messing around with various video settings and vmodes and cmodes,
but I really can't figure out what difference they make. I didn't notice
any errors, even when I used ones that were completely absurd (1600x1200 on
a cheap 15" monitor) and I didn't notice any difference in the resolution or
color depth. Basically, if I uncheck "no video driver", the kernel prints
maybe five lines to my ATI 128 card, which stays at 1200x1000 resolution,
and then continues the boot process on onboard graphics, which switches up
to 800x600 resolution.

Typing "startx" dies because it can't find any suitable modes. I looked in
/etc/X11/XF86Config and realized that I have *no* idea how to approach it.

There have been a lot of questions about this stuff lately. Is there any
central area for information on configuring video on LinuxPPC?

Thanks to anyone that helps,
 Ben
