Subject: no sound with kernel 2.2.6 on B&W G3

When I run gmix, it tells me it can't find a kernel with sound support
compiled into it, and kmix tells me it can't read or write to the mixer,
despite the fact that the permissions on /dev/mixer are such that root can
rw to it.
Was sound support compiled into the stock 2.2.6 kernel that comes with YDL
