I had this same problem with my CS 1.2 on a PowerPC. What I did was
go into /lib/modules and create a link (for you would be called
2.2.6-16bprep) that points to the 2.2.15-1.9.0 directory and also you
need to go into the 2.2.15-2.9.0 directory and type "depmod -a" .
Reboot your machine and the ethernet card should work and the
dependencies should be fine. Again, this worked on a Mac, so I
don't know if the fix is hardware dependent. Good luck.
