My personal guess is that /mnt/boot/vmlinuz should be a link to
zImage-prep-2.2.15-2.9.0.

As far as know you cannot.
If you want to choose a kernel a startup you need a program called "quik".
The version that shipped with CS 1.1 works only on /dev/sda.
Boot your system and try:

        dd if=/boot/zImage-prep-2.2.15-2.9.0. of=/dev/YOUR_PREP_PARTION

On the next boot your machine should come up with that kernel version
