Subject: sound and mail problems

ok, i know that this is a commonly asked question, but it has been a
problem on my machine for along time now...
on my blue and white g3, i cannot get sound out of the speakers, the sound
on the speaker out works just fine, but the internal speaker does not work
at all, here is the speaker volume line in aumix i get somthing like this
L*** ***R*********** and the cursor des not move at, aumix also crases
when fed the -s <level> option
please help
also does anyone know where pine figures out that a mailbox is being used?
i have no mail or pine processess running and when i run pine, it say
mailbox is open from another process, mailbox is read only..
