Gentlemen, I'll be out of it for a while. i tried the following, so
that YDL installer would see my internal IDE Hard Drive. But when i put
it back together all i got were the startup chimes, and a dark screen.
It looks as if the monitor is working, but none of the drives ar being
checked for media, the HD starts up, but the floppy does not eject, i
cannot force it to look onto the CD or external SCSI's... I think it
might me kaput. i thought maybe the ROM chip was shot, but i tried it
in another Gossamer machine and it worked flawlessly. I'm thinking the
motherboard went kablooie...
Here's what I tried...

 1. Use pdisk to see if your hard drive has the MkLinux id
/dev/hdc. If it does, then you're in luck. Keep reading. 2.

Turn off your computer and remove all cords from the back.
You're about to switch the IDE cables so your hard drive is

given the id /dev/hda. 3. Remove the four screws from the
back
of the computer and pull out the drawer. 4. If you're
facing
the back of the computer and looking down on the
motherboard,
the IDE cables connect to the motherboard on the lower left

corner of the motherboard. 5. Here you'll find three ribbon

cables connected to the motherboard. If the three were
numbered in order from the edge of the motherboard, the IDE

cables are 2 and 3. Unplug them and switch them (plug 2
into
where 3 was and vice versa). 6. Push the drawer back in and

screw it back up. When you turn your computer on, it will
work
just like it did before. Use pdisk to make sure the id
             changed.

A buddy here said maybe it is the IDE controller chip.. i dunno, but
this is gonna be a long repair.. I am 200 miles from the road system in
Rural Alaska, and the nearest repair shop is 800 air miles south of
here..

SH*T!

Thnks for listenin, and PLEASE PLEASE!! i am VERY open to ideas...
