Apple modified egcs 1.12 to use AltiVec, and made the source available to
the Darwin project (although in a not very public way). There was a
discussion on the GCC mailing list about when Apple would be presenting
their code for inclusion and I believe now it is a matter of the copyright
being assigned (see
http://bitrange.com/cgi-bin/htsearch?method=and&format=builtin-long&sort=tim
e&config=egcs&words=altivec&restrict= for all the discussions).

If you want the Apple versions (currently only designed to work w/ Darwin)
go to :

http://www.publicsource.apple.com/projects/darwin/source/egcs-2.tar.gz

Enjoy,
Jason
