I'm using a plain vanilla PPC 7500 (80 megs ram, 1 gig hd), sys 8.6.

Whether I use an external drive with the Mac OS (with the one gig
drive formatted as unallocated) or with the internal divided into 2
sections, Mac partition 352 megs, and unallocated 650 megs) the same
thing happens:

I install the BootX extension, the BootX App control panel, and put
the ramdisk.image.gz in the sys folder, and vmlinux in the sys
folder---then:

1. If ramdisk is checked, I get to the black screen and the
everything stops after the word booting:

2. If ramdisk is unchecked, then it starts to boot, I get about
1 1/2 pages of scrolled info, and it stops with the following message
showing:

"Kernal Panic: VFS: unable to mount root fs on 089:01
Rebooting in 180 Seconds"

and everything stops.

Whether or not the video driver box is checked doesn't matter.

Thanks in advance for any help!

(I'm using the YDL CD, by the way)
