This morning my system was running 8.5.1 and BootX 1.1.3.
I did a clean install of MacOS 9, with the "upgrade Apple disk drivers"
option UNchecked. I have booted into MacOS and linux several times now
with no difficulties. I have not tried BootX 1.2b so I can not comment
on it's effectiveness.
