Yes, the cloppy and the cdrom show up in /mnt, and the cdrom symlink points
to /dev/sdb. I have tried both mac and ibm-formatted floppies.

When I type the command 'eject cdrom,' the zip disk ejects.

I examined the /var/log/dmesg and it reads (partially):
_____________________________________________________________
Detected scsi removable disk sdb at scsi 0, channel 0, id 5,...
.
.
sdb: READ CAPACITY failed
sdb: status=0, message=00, host=0, driver=28
sdb: extended sense code=2
sdb: block size assumed to be 512 bytes, disk size 1GB
.
.
Partition check:
.
.
sdb: scsidisk I/O error: dev 08:10, sector 0
unable to read partition table

Clearly something is wrong. Unfortunately I am way too new to Linux to
know what it is. The floppy still doesn't work.

Great thanks,

Allen

Ok, lets start with the basics, sorry if you already did all this.

Type: ls -al /mnt

Do the floppy and cdrom directories show up?

Type: ls -al /dev/cdrom

Is there a cdrom symlink and to what device does it point to?

Is the floppy in the drive and formatted as an HFS (mac) disk?
