It now appears that the three finger salute did in fact solve my problem.
However, I was including the /dev/ in the root device field of the BootX App
and this was what was causing the "Unable to mount root partition -
rebooting in 180 seconds" error during the Linux boot.

I was going to tell you to use the 3 finger salute and return to the
installer
and then find that the partitions have been written when pdisk said they
weren't, but I guess that didn't work for you. I know I felt lucky as hell
that
anything worked after the rude reboot. I sure like to figure this one out in
case I have to do further installations.
