Tbat's all I do for my machine & all works well, but some of the folks with the
newer machines whcih currently require patches to implement usb & such correctly may
not be able to compile from the kernel.org sources.

That's one part you don't have to worry about on the macs, since the kernel is on
the mac os partition. If your home build fails you can always easily switch back to
the original, providing you didn't get overconfident and delete it of course.
