Have you rebooted the machine since changing the /etc/HOSTNAME entry? If not, then you
need to do something like...
hostname --file /etc/HOSTNAME
in order to update the system.
You might also want to take a look at /etc/hosts and make sure the hostname is correct,
assuming it has been entered.
