Quake 2 is not open source.

I believe only Id games that have been released as open source are
Wolfenstien and Doom/Doom2. I heard somewhere that Id would be releasing
the Q1 source code shortly after the release of Q3.

You may want to check out www.linuxquake.com It's a site run by Mike
Hallock one of the co-authors of the Quake How-To.
