Are you running CS-1.1?
If not, try installing the 'vmlinux' in
/pub/yellowdog/champion-1.1/ppc/install on
the ftp site, as well as kernel-2.2.6-16b.ppc.rpm in
/pub/yellowdog/champion-1.1/ppc/RedHat/RPMS

This does have ppp support.
