Oh, sorry, forgot that part :-)

I picked up the Linux port of it from

ftp://ftp.infomagic.com/pub/mirrors/linux/sunsite/system/daemons/ftpd-BSD-0.2.1.tar.gz

(so I assume it's on sunsite too :-).

It built cleanly from that; the only thing missing is a PAM
configuration. (It builds with PAM by default, but one must notice
this and remember to add an 'ftp' instance to the PAM configuration or
spend much time scratching one's head when logins all fail.)
