I hear there are bugs with some Rage 128 cards and X. I experienced the same
sort of misbehavior with a G4/350. I used Xautoconfig (now mentioned twice
on this list today) at http://dev.linuxppc.org/~trini/. It generated a valid
X configuration file that got me up to 1024 x 768 at 8 bits per pixel. Other
bit depths just wouldn't work, though--and I understand that this is a
problem with Rage128 and G4s.
