I'm in the process of building new kernel rpms right now for 2.2.17pre16
My kernels are built from vanilla source with the usb backport and
low-level mol patch.
The usb backport patch does not properly apply to 2.2.17pre17+
source, and I don't particularly feel like hacking the patch to make
it work, even though I looked at the issue and think I could- I'm not
a kernel hacker and I wouldn't know if I f'd something up big time...
I don't want my tinkering to be responsible for anybodies panick...
So this kernel will be the last I build until 2.2.17 final is out and
a usb backport for 2.2.17 is released from suse development (his
patch is the only one I trust).
The big advantage to this kernel over 2.2.17pre13 is that Rage 128
support has been added (in the 2.2.17pre tree itself, not as a
seperate patch).
Even though I don't like it, the kernel rpm now installs modules-info
so that it won't break the dependancy for kernelcfg. The ONLY reason
why i care about kernelcfg is that yup gripes and complains if
kernelcfg don't have all its dependencies there. I looked at
modules-info, decided it was a high maintenance crappy way to do
things, and did not even attempt to see if it was valid with my
kernel modules.
This kernel is from vanilla source, not pmac specific. That means it
may not work with the latest greatest hardware such as the new iMacs
with the harmon kardon sound etc. It does support WAY more usb
devices than the pmac-specific kernel trees I've seen.
It should work with yaBoot but I haven't tested it with yaBoot.
The kernel rpm's will be on my ftp server within the hour. They will
be tested on a Yellow Dog system (rev b iMac) later today (at work).
