Booting problems

I have just got a hold of YDL, and installed it. Followed the instructions
in the manual, used BootX to dual boot, and now when I try and boot Linux,
everything seems to go well until I get this message.

Coda Kernel/Venus communications v.4.6.0 braam@cs.cmu.edu
<mailto:braam@cs.cmu.edu>
VFS: Cannot open root device 00:00
Kernel panic: VFS: unable to mount root fs on 00:00
Rebooting in 180 seconds...

I have updated the kernel for the blue and white G3, as advised for DMA
timeout and kernel panic situation described in the manual, and have changed
the partitions for it to look for the root on, but still the same message
comes up.

I have 2 scsi hard drives and I am leaving my MacOS9 on one and the other is
for other OS's, at the moment only Linux. I did not reformat the whole
drive so there are all those little partitions, which I assume are for disk
management. The second drive has a partition for LaCie utilities. Have I
been doing something wrong? Or should I be using Yaboot. I have been
avoiding it because of the warnings in the manual. I am not thrilled with
the idea of having to reinstall the MacOS and all the software, is there any
way to avoid this? I have dealt a little with Linux on Intel platforms, and
know LILO has issues with disk sizes, is this the case here?

Any help would be REALLY appreciated. I seem to be cursed when it comes to
installing Linux, and would love to break the curse by having an
installation actually be fully functional.:-)

Thanks in advance for any help.
