I think this is a problem not with YDL but with 2.4 in general. Recently (last week) there was a major bug found where kernel threads that never entered user space but were swapped out would have a bogus pointer and the MSR would get hosed. They are still trying to weedle out the last few places this can occur and fix them. Keep an eye out for newer kernels you will probably need to get one. I could be totally off base here also. If you want more detail, its a bit hard to follow, do a google search for "Re: CONFIG_ALTIVEC on SMP machines without altivec...." The subject is misleading. You could also look up Troy Benjegerdes, he is working on the problem now.
