I just put a parallel port zip drive on my ydl 2.1 machine. Works fine.
What I did was
1) plugged in device and shutdown
2) looked at dmesg | less to see what device name it was getting (/dev/sdb)
3) added an entry in /etc/fstab:

/dev/sdb4    /mnt/zip    vfat    auto,user,rw    0    0

(The type is VFAT because I'm using zip disks that have been created in windows).

4) Made the mount point (mkdir /mnt/zip ; chmod 666 !$)

and

5) Made a link to the device on the desktop (KDE) with the desktop menu's "Create New Device -> Floppy"
(though I renamed it to 'Zip Disk' instead of floppy).

i know i have to mount this to use it. where is it? /dev/sda? I have found
some tut's on zip's but they are all old before usb was supported and they
are all for pc. (I have created a mount point /mnt/zip)

i am also interested in doing a basic back-up, a zip 100MB is probably not
big enough, right?

thank you.
