Subject: XFree86 config problem

I am trying to configure XFree86 manually since the
installer wouldn't do it for me. When I type XFree86
-configure I get a Fatal server error. When I look in
the log the first line that jumps out at me is:
(WW) Cannot open APM
Is this the problem? What do I need to do to fix it?
At the end of the log file there are a whole bunch of
Symbol XYZ is unresolved! messages, but I have a
feeling those are related to the above.
