Subject: Apple LCD display brightness

I have a G4 Cube with 15inch LCD display running Yellowdog 1.2.1
with the 2.2.18-8a kernel.
Does anybody know of any code to change brightness of the LCD panel
from the Linux side? The Mac OS seems to know how to do it and responds
to the pseudo pushbutton on the left. Linux currently ignores this
input.
There is no hardware brightness control on the display.
Is there a similar problem/solution for PowerBooks?
