hello

Linux mustn't and can't mount audio CDs, correct? Is there any way to
fail-safe it? The freeze is way nasty. here is the line from my fstab:

/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom auto noauto,ro,users 0 0

I also get a nasty looking red [FAILED] during boot-up if there's no CD
in
the drive at all at the boot-up. Harmless, I guess.

Related question. Has anyone gotten XMMS or Alsaplayer to play audio
CDs on an iMac DV? I've read AArthur's piece at
http://www.imaclinux.net/php/imaclinux_g_h.php3?single=18, compiled the
XMMS CDRead plug-in, followed his instructions, but no tracks show up in
the window. Another plug-in, CDAudio, sees the tracks but can't play
them. Alsaplayer, on the other hand, recognizes the tracks and plays
static that definitely has some kind of relation to what's on the CD,
but it's not quite there. Anyone? Or am I the only one without a CD
player? =)

philippe
