gnome freezes

I have CS1.1 on my bronze PB, and GNOME freezes on me often and without warning.
The behavior is as if the left mouse button remains depressed. I know that my
mouse pad is not guilty because this behavior isn't apparent in the Mac OS.

If there aren't any solutions to the freeze problem, does anyone know any key
combinations to exit GNOME with having to do the 3-finger kill?
