Missing /var/gdm/:0.xauth file

I get the following when I switch to init level 5 (gdm). Look at the
last line, where there's an error about unlinking an auth file. As a
quick fix(?), I copies one of the other *.xauth files to ":0.xauth". I
realize this is probably not secure, as far as MIT-MAGIC-COOKIES go, but
then again, I know nothing about them. Should I regenerate a proper
":0.xauth" file? If so, how?
