Thanks for the reply - it took me a while to get to this again.
I tried a few of the things on your list, got a newer kernel and was able to
get past the boot error and into the boot process. It again failed to
create fstab (and yes, I did install boot loader during install - never has
worked), so I wrote one following your guidance in an archived message.
Now fstab check is OK, but I get the following:

"ext2fs_check_if_mount: /dev/sda7 contains a file system with errors, chekc
forced.
No such file or directory while determining whether /dev/sda7 is mounted.
Inode 51374 has illegal block(s).

/dev/sda7: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.
(i.e., without -a or -p options)"

I ran fsck and got a list of about a dozen illegal blocks. Cleared them (I
don't know what I'm doing), rebooted...same error.

I'm lost.

I thought that I might have gotten my swap and primary partitions confused
in the fstab build, but it would'nt have made it through the swap test,
would it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Sincerely,
Mitch

Well, it's not identified as an AV unit on the casing, but there does appear
to be a card with standard RGB and S-videon in and out. HPV would require a
monitor adapter, yes?

Yeah, I had actually done this, twice. Didn't take either time.

- Installed new battery (it was in fact, dead). No change.
- cleared PRAM.

If I am indeed working on an AV machine, is it worth pursuing?
