someone earlier mentioned using apples disk utility, but for command-line
knowledge, the mount command is what you want. on my box, "man mount"
didn't show anything, but "man 2 mount" did. apparently, i have an issue
with my path, so others may as well.

i may have this backwards, but i believe the syntax is

 mount device mountpoint

where device is like "/dev/hd0a" and mountpoint is like "/"

different shells will act differently, but i believe they only "know" about
executable files in your path.
