'root' is the 'Macintosh HD'. The ydl manual for yaboot is vague but there is
another page on the ydl site that gives more information and clears up some
issues http://www.yellowdoglinux.com/support/faq_bootloader.shtml

I finally managed to run cs 1.2 having read those pages about yaboot.
