Here's a couple of combinations that need to be tested for both YDL CS 1.2
and 1.2.1. Not that I'm going to do them all, just that they might need
doing.

Build and install KDE2 with and for:

1. Stock installation with development tools plus lesstif and bzip

2. Stock installation with development tools plus Open-Motif and bzip but
not lesstif

3. Stock installation with development tools plus Open-Motif, lesstif and
bzip

4. Stock installation with development tools upgraded to Xfree 4.0 plus
lesstif and bzip

5. Stock installation with development tools upgraded to Xfree 4.0 plus
Open-Motif and bzip but not lesstif

6. Stock installation with development tools upgraded to Xfree 4.0 plus
Open-Motif, lesstif and bzip

Questions: Which of the above combinations are equivalent or not sensible
and can be eliminated or combined?
for example, does it matter if KDE2 is built on top
of Xfree3.3.6 or Xfree 4.0?
can KDE2 built on top of
Xfree3.3.6 run on a machine with 4.0 installed?
                                             any dependencies between
Open-Motif and Xfree versions?

for example: do the cases which combine
installations of Open-Motif
                                            and lesstif make any sense?

What happens when you try to build with one
combination and execute with another?

Can Open-motif and lesstif co-exist in the same
installation?

can Open-Motif substitute entirely for lesstif when
building and using KDE2?

                      is KDE2 compatible with Open-Motif?

is KDE2 compatible with Open-Motif installed over
lesstif? does it make sense to do this?

if KDE2 compatible with lesstif installed over
Open-Motif?does it make sense to do this?

does installing Open-Motif, lesstif, or both in any
order mess up XFree?

What is the cause of the reported "dynamic linker"
messages when installing
the rpms (which rpms are those anyway and what
lesstif/open-motif Xfree combination
                        were they built with?)

Can anyone explain the relationship between KDE, X,
Xfree, lesstif and Open-Motif?

                   YDL CS 1.2 has

file:/mnt/cdrom/YellowDog/RPMS/lesstif-0.89.9-2.1.ppc.rpm

file:/mnt/cdrom/YellowDog/RPMS/lesstif-1.2-devel-0.89.9-2.1.ppc.rpm

file:/mnt/cdrom/YellowDog/RPMS/lesstif-2.0-devel-0.89.9-2.1.ppc.rpm

file:/mnt/cdrom/YellowDog/RPMS/lesstif-clients-0.89.9-2.1.ppc.rpm

file:/mnt/cdrom/YellowDog/RPMS/lesstif-mwm-0.89.9-2.1.ppc.rpm

how much of this would I need?
which development package, 1.2 or 2.0 or both, or none?

                    clients?
                     mwm?
will installing this make problems in Xfree or KDE?

I now have the source bz2 files for KDE and qt. I also have a linux
installation I'm not afraid to trash. The game's afoot tonight!
