As far as a decent "learn linux" book, I've found the good old "Running
Linux" (O'Reilly) to be a fine start. There are any number of "Linux
Bible" type books that can serve as a hard copy substitute for manpages
etc., and it's probably worth grabbing one of those so you know where to
start looking.
