uninstall gnome

How do i completely uninstall gnome and enlightenment and have only a window
manager like afterstep or fvwm? I need the speed and multiple windows but not
the bells and whistles.

Also, thanks to everyone who gave me advice on how to configure X. It is now
working 24bit at 800X600.
