As far as I know, the answer is no. I ended up manually configuring my
display's mode list in the XF86 file. Kind of a pain in the ass finding
out all about that stuff, but if you go to linuxdocs.org there's plenty
of material on the subject of determining your display's timings.

I know that doesn't help much.
