You can still use KDE applications, even when running gnome as your
Desktop environemnt.

Glimmer is ok. Should do most of what you want, scriptable in python I
think (maybe scheme?). Menu Driven, support for C, C+, php, html, python,
assembely, etc.. No CVS or ftp support, but a plugin could be made. GTK
interface.

nedit also springs to mind as does the venerable vi (spend the 30 minutes
going through the tutor files before you reserve judgement) there's also a
"make emacs works like vi" mode for emacs ("Hey! You got vi in my
emacs!") I'm sure there are others, Glimmer and nedit are what I use and
like -- after pico :)

If you're communicating with ssh enabled machines, I'd suggest using scp
(or sftp if that floats your boat)
