May I suggest USING LINUX by Bill Ball as a good linux newbie primer. It
came with my VA Research workstation in '99. Although not a newbie myself,
it has been helpful to my brothers, who were at the time. It's an easy
read and will help you do most anything a newbie will need to now to get up
& running.
