sounds like you might have selected more than one resolution in your x
configuration.
Try running 'setup' from a terminal (not within x) and select
"Xconfiguration" or something similar. When you are prompted to select
resolutions, selet only one. If this doesn't work, post your
/etc/X11/XF86Config file on the list and we'll go from there.
