Glad I could help. I was having the same problems for the longest time until I switched to 16 bit. Then all of a sudden it just worked ( well sort of).I believe ATI Rage 128 based cards are only supported in 4.1 or better. Although Xv works in 4.0 the colors were always off but the acceleration was there. Go check out the Xfree home page it will tell you what additions have been made to the r128 driver. http://xfree86.org/4.2.0/r128.html

So your having problems with dvd playback because of X. Does your dvd software support Xv? What package are you using, xine? mplayer? vlc :( ? If you using Xshm then play back will have no acceleration. And read my post about above about the Xv Dri bug in 4.2. If your trying to watch dvd's you'll most certainly want to be aware of this.
