I also have a pismo laptop, and am running xfree4.0 which I got working by
doing the following:

download the xf4.0 rpms from
http://dev.linuxppc.org/ftp/users/fsirl/xf4/RPMS/

you will notice that there are two versions of the files, only download
one of each(either .36a or .30c)

it helps if you put them in a seperate directory

install them by typing:

rpm -Uvh *.rpm

if that fails try

rpm -Uvh --nodeps *.rpm

and then get the xfree config file
from: http://www.cloud13.com/ppc/stuff/XF86Config

and put it in /etc/X11/ as XF86Config

and that should get you a working X server, as for a window manager thats
up to you(I am running Helix GNOME with sawfish, but will probably be
changing soon) I will also, if you have a USB mouse, will let you use both
at the same time, but I don't know how to emulate 3 mouse buttons using
one of bens latest kernels.
