If you're talking about a Blue and White G3, Mine boots just fine in YDL 2.1

I had an unusual situation with my second EIDE chain that I had to correct
before I could run the installer. I had taken the original 6g IDE drive and
replaced it with a 30g drive. I then re-jumpered the 6g drive as a slave
drive and put it in the bay under the DVD-Rom drive where the zip drive
normally goes. I connected the EIDE cable from the DVD-Rom to the 6gDrive,
connected the power cable and booted. This was with YDL 2.0. The 2.0
installer worked ok with this arrangement.

Now 2.1 was another story. It just hung up while copying packages to the
hard drive. No matter what it hung.

I had added memory. I removed it. No change.

I had tried a 768 mb swap partition. I changed back to 256 mb swap AND at the
same time, pulled the plug on the 6g drive on the ide chain.

One of these two things allowed me to install YDL 2.1 no problems.

No problems since, except KDE's mail client keeps seg faulting.
